Technetium is the chemical element with the symbol Tc and atomic number 43. The majority of Tc occuring in nature is Tc-99, though this element only occurs in trace quantities because of the fission reactions of the Uranium in the atmosphere, making its main way of obtaining through synthetic processes.

Technetium is a silvery gray radioactive metal. Its longest lived isotope, Technetium-98, lasts around 2 million years. On the periodic table, it is in the Manganese group, and hence shows similar electron configurations. Its main use is as a radioactive tracer in the excited form of Tc-99m.
