Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is an extremely pale blue astringent with a markedly bitter smell sold at many stores. It has antiseptic and bleaching properties, but is actually detrimental to helping wounds when at concentrations exceeding 0.5%. The ideal concentration for pouring over a cut is 0.03%, which is a 100-fold dilution in the typically sold 3% solution bottles.
